Buffalo goes for three in a row tonight with the Detroit Red Wings in town. They can also get back to .500 with two points tonight. Stick with us for lineup news throughout the day.

It's the first of four meetings between the Sabres and Red Wings this season.

Here's what you need to know.

Yesterday's practice

The Sabres held an optional skate yesterday coming off their 4-2 win over the Calgary Flames. Ryan O'Reilly was on the ice with the team as he recovers from an injury that's caused him to miss five of the last six games.

Here's what Jourdon LaBarber wrote about that:
Only a handful of players took the ice for an optional skate on Tuesday, but O'Reilly was once again one of them as he continues to work his way back from an oblique injury. O'Reilly said Monday that he hopes to return to the lineup against the Red Wings on Wednesday, and his skating session appeared to be a positive step in that direction.

"We tested him a couple different ways with some faceoffs and battle drills there," Bylsma said. "I thought he shot the puck particularly well if that's any indication. I thought he looked pretty good out there today."

Buffalo scored three quick power-play goals Monday, so Brian Duff caught up with assistant coach Bob Woods:

Tonight's opponent

Detroit comes in on a four-game losing streak.

The Sabres (7-8-4) and Red Wings (8-10-1) are separated by one point in the standings. It is the first time the teams have met with the Sabres ranked above the Red Wings in the standings since March 13, 2010.

History, however, has mostly been on Detroit's side. Buffalo needs a point tonight to avoid going pointless in four straight visits from Detroit for the first time in franchise history. The Sabres' last home win against the Red Wings was a 3-2 shootout victory on Nov. 2, 2014.

Live Fearless Frenzy
