Sharpen Up: November 14, 2016

by Chris Ryndak @ChrisRyndak / Sabres.com

It's a new week and the Sabres will look to shake off back-to-back losses to the Devils over the weekend.

That shaking off will begin today when the return to practice at HarborCenter as they get set for a game in St. Louis against the Blues on Tuesday. Then they'll kick off a four-game homestand starting Thursday against Tampa Bay

Here's what you need to know.

Buffalo returns to practice today and we'll have to see who is back at practice. Ryan O'Reilly and Dmitry Kulikov missed Saturday's game due to injuries.

The Sabres have been dealing with quite a few bumps and bruises over the last few weeks. The list of injured players also includes Jack Eichel (who is making progress on the recovery of his sprained ankle), Tyler Ennis, Zach Bogosian and Nicolas Deslauriers.

Weekend recap

The Sabres lost 2-1 in overtime on Friday and then 4-2 in Newark on Saturday. Here's the postgame reaction from Saturday, where Marcus Foligno and Matt Moulson picked up the goals for Buffalo.

Down on the farm

The Rochester Americans played a three-in-three over the weekend. To help fill out the lineup yesterday, the Sabres sent down Nicholas Baptiste, Cole Schneider and Justin Falk. The result? A 3-2 win in Springfield. Baptiste scored twice and Cole Schneider picked up an assist (he's tied with Cal O'Reilly for second in the league in scoring).

We'll have more on all of that in tomorrow's Amerks Update.

Military Appreciation Night recaps

If you missed any of our Military Appreciation Night events on Friday, we recapped them in Saturday's gameday edition of Sharpen Up so I recommend checking that out.

The military-themed jerseys the team wore for warm-ups are also up for auction now.

On tap today

Stick with us throughout the day for any roster news. Jourdon LaBarber and Brian Duff will be down at practice today before the team flies out to the Gateway to the West.

We'll also have our weekly Sabres Prospects Report from Kris Baker. Brandon Hagel had quite a weekend and you have to see Brendan Guhle's end-to-end goal.
