Last night, a rally by Nashville in the third period led to Buffalo's fourth straight loss, this time in overtime on home ice. The Sabres held a lead going into the third, but were unable to hang on as Filip Forsberg potted the winner 2:45 into the extra period to give the Predators a 5-4 victory.
The game marked Buffalo's last before the NHL Trade Deadline, which hits at 3 p.m. today.
Here's what you need to know.

Looking back at last night

Here's the game recap, where the Sabres were obviously disappointed in the fact they lost another late lead.

"It's the same thing," Jake McCabe said. "It's frustrating saying that, because obviously we were just in this situation in Phoenix and, you know, we say the right things. But it comes to a point where you've got to go out and execute and that's what we're not doing.
"You've got to put together a full 60 otherwise it's just going to be more embarrassing losses like this."

McCabe scored as did Brian Gionta, Kyle Okposo and Evander Kane.

"I don't think the third period today or against Arizona is us not doing the game plan or us getting off the page," Bylsma said. "It's just more of a mindset, more of a situational game read of how we need to play and playing the right way and playing on top of guys to finish a game out."

"It's being fragile," Gionta said. "It's being a young team trying to find our way. When we have those leads we can't sit back and wait for teams to bring it to us."

The team will be back on the ice at around 11 today for practice at KeyBank Center.

20170301-bodie

The Sabres made one move yesterday, moving Daniel Catenacci for defenseman Mat Bodie from the Rangers.
Bodie currently ranks 12th among all AHL defensemen with 30 points (8+22) in 45 games for the Hartford Wolf Pack this season. In 196 career AHL games, Bodie has compiled 98 points (20+78) and 127 penalty minutes.
The East St. Paul, Manitoba native signed with the Rangers as an undrafted free agent after captaining Union College to an NCAA championship in 2014 and being named to the All-Tournament Team.
And a roster move to announce: Linus Ullmark has been assigned to the Amerks. He was up after Robin Lehner sustained an upper-body injury on Saturday. But Lehner was back between the pipes last night. The Amerks play Friday and Saturday at home this week.

Yesterday in the East

Capitals 4 - Rangers 1
Avalanche 0 - Flyers 4
Coyotes 1 - Bruins 4
Hurricanes 2 - Panthers 3 (SO)
Blue Jackets 0 - Canadiens 1 (OT)
Penguins 2 - Stars 3
Red Wings 3 - Canucks 2 (OT)
Maple Leafs 1 - Sharks 3
So where does Buffalo now stand?
With 63 points through 63 games, they're six points behind Toronto for the second Wild Card spot (with one more game played) and nine back of Boston for third in the Atlantic.
