Buffalo entered the third period of last night's game tied 1-1, but the Anaheim Ducks unloaded on Buffalo with four goals and ultimately skated away with a 5-2 victory. The Ducks poured 44 shots on net and while Jack Eichel and Rasmus Ristolainen scored, Buffalo only mustered 26 total shots.

They'll look to turn it around quickly as they head to Toronto after today's practice. They play at Air Canada Centre against the Maple Leafs tomorrow night and then host the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday. That's right: Another back-to-back set.

Here's what you need to know.

Obviously the players and coaching staff were disappointed by last night's result. Here's Jourdon LaBarber's recap.

Let's hear from inside the locker room:

Lots of good streaks snapped, too, unfortunately. (Stats courtesy of the good folks at @SabresPR)

The team had a good run at home (and they can get back on the right track with that next home game on Sunday). The Sabres failed to get a point at home for the first time since Dec. 29 vs. Boston, ending a 6-0-1 run at KeyBank Center.

Anaheim became the first Pacific Division team to earn a regulation win at KeyBank Center since a 3-2 Edmonton win on Nov. 7, 2014, ending a 13-0-3 run at home against the Pacific Division for the Sabres.

The Sabres are now 12-2-3 in their last 17 home games against the Western Conference and 10-5-2 overall against the West this season.

Anaheim's first goal (with just 2.4 seconds remaining in the first period) snapped a streak of 218:39 without allowing a 5-on-5 goal for Robin Lehner that dated back to Jan. 31 at Montreal. The streak included 105 saves and 186:37 of 5-on-5 ice time.

Roster move

The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has assigned forward Evan Rodrigues to the Rochester Americans (AHL).

Rodrigues was called up yesterday morning in case Evander Kane was unable to play. Kane did suit up, skating an even 20 minutes, while logging three shots and a minus-2 rating.

The Amerks host Albany tonight and play in Syracuse tomorrow night.

Valentine's Day Cards

Yesterday, we released this year's set of Sabres Valentines. We hope you're OkpoSO in love with them too…

Showdown Round 2 is set

If you've missed any of the action, check out the Showdown hub.

The semifinals begin during tomorrow night's broadcast with Ryan O'Reilly taking on Zemgus Girgensons.

On tap today

Eichel scored last night, which means that young C.J. Gworek added another puck to his Eichel Tower. When we were in Nashville, Lauren Hall and our video crew visited his house to check out the tower for themselves and we'll have a great video feature on the way for you today.

C.J. got to meet Eichel at the team's morning skate that week and C.J.'s dad John was kind enough to write a few words for us about the whole experience that we'll also share this morning.

Other than that? We'll have full practice coverage for you today as the team is set to take the ice at HarborCenter. Then be sure to stick with us all weekend for full pre- and postgame coverage of this weekend's games.

We're in the midst of a busy stretch that doesn't end until the team's bye week starting Feb. 20. But hey, we all get to watch a lot of hockey so that's pretty OK.
