Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today the team has assigned defenseman Andrej Sekera to Rochester of the American Hockey League. This leaves the Sabres with 24 players still in training camp. The deadline for final rosters is 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Sekera was Buffalo's third-round selection (71st overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He played in four of the team's six preseason games, recording two penalty minutes and nine shots on goal. A native of Bojnice, Slovakia, the 20-year-old Sekera was the Defenseman of the Year in the Ontario Hockey League last season when he scored 55 (21+34) points in 51 games with the Owen Sound Attack.

Following Wednesday's season opener in Carolina, Buffalo kicks off the home portion of their schedule on Friday as they play host to the Montreal Canadiens. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available at Gold pricing levels.
