Sabres Win Friday Night Shootout

The Buffalo Sabres extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night. Ryan Miller made 41 saves on 43 shots in the victory extending his winning streak to three games on the season.

The Sabres came back from a two-goal deficit in the first period as Jason Williams for the Red Wings scored his first two goals of the season. Williams scored at the 1:29 mark of the period into an empty net as Miller misplayed a puck that bounced off the boards. Williams later scored at the 13:07 mark to give Detroit a 2-0 lead.

Chris Drury scored a power play goal at the 15:10 mark of the period to cut the lead in half. With 2:12 remaining in the second period, the Sabres tied the game with their second power play goal on the night, as Thomas Vanek beat Dominik Hasek. Hasek made 15 saves on the night.

With no scoring in the 3rd period nor the overtime, the Sabres were faced with their third shootout in four games, getting goals from Daniel Briere and Ales Kotalik to secure the victory. Pavel Datsyuk got Detroit's only shootout goal.

The Sabres next game is on Saturday night versus the New York Rangers at HSBC Arena. Game time 7:00 PM.
