The Buffalo Sabres today announced that they will hold a “Party in the Plaza” to welcome back fans for their 40th anniversary season home opener on Saturday, October 9 against the New York Rangers.

The pre-game festivities will begin at 5 p.m., outside of HSBC Arena, in the plaza area located near Perry and Illinois St. Fans can enjoy live music from “Strictly Hip” with food and beverages available for purchase.

The party will take place rain or shine with free admission, as a game ticket will not be required for entrance. Prior to puck drop, the Sabres will unveil their 2009-10 Northeast Division Champions banner.

Less than 500 tickets remain for the 7 p.m. game. All fans in attendance will receive a free Buffalo Sabres magnet schedule courtesy of Perry’s Ice Cream.

The home opener against the Rangers is the Sabres’ first of four home games in seven days during the first week of the season, which also includes the team’s 40th anniversary celebration on Friday, October 15 against Montreal. Other opponents that week are Chicago (October 11) and New Jersey (October 13). Tickets remain for each of these games. Individual game tickets for all 2010-11 regular season games are now on sale.
