The 2008 Buffalo Sabres Street HockeyFest presented by Dicks Sporting Goods will once again take over the streets outside HSBC Arena on Sunday, August 17th. In its seventh year, the event is the largest street hockey tournament in Western New York.
The tournament is now a 17 and under tournament with six divisions. The Microns (5-6 years-old/ born 2002-2003), Mites (7-8 years-old/ born 2000-2001), Squirts (9-10 years-old/ born 1998-1999), Pee Wees (11-12 years-old/ born 1996-1997), Bantams (13-14 years-old/ born 1994-1995) and Midgets (15-17 years-old/ born 1991-1993) will all hit the pavement at this rain or shine event. All divisions are co-ed. Microns and Mites are required to wear a helmet and must also be under adult supervision. All division placements are determined by age/birth year.
Due to the success of past Street HockeyFest events, the previous Legends division has been eliminated to accommodate more youth teams. There will be a separate 18 years and older tournament held in September. More information will be available at a later date. Registration is now closed for all age groups
. Each participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt and hat. Each team is guaranteed to play at least three games.
There will also be an exhibition street hockey game between members of the WGR 550 staff and Buffalo Sabres Alumni. Current members of the Buffalo Sabres as well as Sabres alumni will also be on hand to sign autographs. Event and parking are free.
