The Buffalo Sabres Sled Hockey Organizatin will be hosting an open clinic on Saturday, May 1 at the Hockey Outlet Rink (3385 Niagara Falls Boulevard, North Tonawanda, NY 14120-1213).
The even is open clinic to physically challenged males and females, ages 5 and through adult, to try out the sport of sled hockey. Interested individuals should show up at the rink between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 pm. All sleds, sticks, and helmets will be provided; just dress for the cooler conditions found inside an ice rink.
There is no charge as Hockey Outlet is donating the ice time for this event.
The opportunity is golden as participants will be able to try the sport out under the guidance of Buffalo's five gold medal Paralympic champions and team coaches. Opportunities to be put on the mailing list for the fall when the teams resume play will also be available.
Sled hockey is for physically challenged individuals with mobility limitations, amputees, as well as able-bodied people with knee, leg, or hip injuries that limit their participation in standard hockey.
Participants of sled hockey have found it to be a great source of: physical fitness, socialization, a chance to play on a team, travel and compete in tournaments, make new friends, and just have fun.
