After spending his last junior five games trying to contain Connor McDavid, 20-year-old Justin Kea has been rewarded with his first NHL deal. It was announced late Tuesday that the Sabres had signed Kea to a three-year, entry-level contract. Kea will report to Rochester where he'll finish the season with the Amerks on an ATO.
Kea (6'4", 210 lbs., 2/7/94) recently completed his fourth season with the Saginaw Spirit (OHL) by logging career-best totals in goals (22), assists (27), points (49) and plus-minus (+14) through 58 games played. He added four points (1+3) in the Spirit’s five-game playoff series against the Erie Otters.
The Woodville, Ontario native was selected by the Sabres in the third round (73rd overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. In four OHL seasons with the Spirit, he appeared in 253 games and totaled 117 points (51+66).
