With hockey season fast approaching, the Buffalo Sabres are inviting youth hockey coaches of all age levels to go back to school on Tuesday, August 30 at the First Annual Buffalo Sabres "Behind the Bench" classroom coaching seminar from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at HSBC Arena. Admission is free.
The seminar will feature relevant player and coaching presentations, followed by a rare question and answer session with members of the Buffalo Sabres and Canisius College men's hockey coaching staff.
The seminar will be hosted by Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier and Head Coach Lindy Ruff. In addition, Sabres Video Scout Jon Christiano will discuss basic player skills, and Administrative Assistant Coach Jeff Holbrook will provide a demonstration on the use of video to review player and team systems.
Canisius College Head Coach Dave Smith, along with assistants Mike Mankowski and Chris Bernard, will cover player developmental skills and coaching topics. Bob Janosz of the Janosz School of Goaltending will discuss basic teaching techniques for goaltenders.
The seminar is open to coaches at every organized level to strengthen their knowledge of the game and to learn new techniques. All coaches attending will receive a complete manual for notes from the clinic and drills to use during their own practices.
