BUFFALO, N.Y. (November 20, 2012) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced that MSG will continue its Sabres programming lineup on Monday nights with the premiere of another classic game on Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. The night’s episode will focus on the Sabres’ thrilling overtime victory against the Ottawa Senators in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals during the 2006 Stanley Cup playoffs.
Viewed as underdogs to the top-seeded Sens, the Sabres forged a 3-1 series lead heading into Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinal round. Despite Buffalo controlling the advantage in games, every game of the series had been close. Each game was decided by one goal with Buffalo eking out overtime wins in Game 1 and Game 3 of the series.
Game 5 took place at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa and, with a berth to the Eastern Conference final on the line, Buffalo and Ottawa remained tied, 2-2, the end of regulation. The Sabres, left short-handed because of an early penalty, managed to score a goal 2:26 into the extra period and secured the win against their division rivals. The victory sent the Sabres to the Eastern Conference final round for the third time in franchise history.
The game will be aired in a two-hour broadcast with special commentary provided by longtime Sabres play-by-play announcer Rick Jeanneret. Jeanneret marked the Sabres’ victory in the game with his now-famous call, "Oh, now do you believe? Now do you believe? These guys are good, scary good!"
Prior to the classic game broadcast, MSG will show another re-airing of “Buffalo Sabres: French Connection Statue Unveiling” at 7 p.m.
Viewers in the Buffalo and Rochester markets will be able to watch the programming on MSG, while viewers in the Syracuse, Binghamton and Albany markets can watch on the MSG+ network. DirecTV subscribers can view Monday’s classic game broadcast on channels 638 and 638-1(HD).
