The Buffalo Sabres announced today the Buffalo Sabres Foundation has awarded over $35,000 in grants to five charitable organizations throughout Western New York.
"We are very excited to give back to the community that has been so supportive of our organization," said Sabres Managing Partner Larry Quinn. "The five recipients of these grants are very worthwhile causes."
The Sisters of Mercy of America will receive a $10,000 grant from the Foundation and will go toward its Education is the Answer Program, which provides G.E.D., computer literacy and life skills training to students from the First Ward/Perry Projects region. An $8,000 grant will be given to Bornhava to support the Creative Sensory Arts Program, a therapeutic arts program for developmentally disabled pre-schoolers.
The Foundation will also donate $5,000 to Goodwill Industries of Western New York, which supports work force readiness and life skills training for individuals and families habituated to long-term dependence. The Homespace Corporation will be given $5,500 for its Healthy Living at Homespace Program. The initiative provides G.E.D. and life skills training for homeless single parents who reside in Homespace's transitional housing facilities. Finally, the Western New York Americorps will receive $8,000 for the construction of a new gymnasium floor at St. Augustine Scholars, which will allow the school basketball team to play "home" games for the first time, and will also be utilized during physical education classes.
The Buffalo Sabres Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit foundation that is committed to enhancing the quality of life for the Western New York region. In the process, the foundation strives to assist worthwhile organizations that make this region a better place to live and work. The primary focus of the foundation is to assist youth hockey initiatives, children's health and wellness initiatives, specifically those that serve the underprivileged and handicapped, and to provide support to non-profit organizations and groups that provide vital services to those in need in our community.
