The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has assigned defenseman Chad Ruhwedel to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.
Ruhwedel was recalled on Friday prior to Buffalo's game against the Ottawa Senators because Carlo Colaiacovo was ruled out due to a lower-body injury. Ruhwedel logged 15:30 of ice time, recorded one shot on goal, three hits and two blocked shots in the Sabres' 3-1 win.
He also made a big play in the third period to clear the zone in what was a one-goal game.
The Amerks are in Binghamton tonight and Randy Cunneyworth can become Rochester's all-time winningest coach with a victory. In 46 games with the Amerks this season, Ruhwedel has picked up eight goals and 22 points. Half of his goals have come on the power play.
Buffalo plays the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday at Air Canada Centre. Stay with Sabres.com throughout the day for lineup news, including the status of Colaiacovo.
