Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today that the team has traded forward Steve Bernier to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for the Canucks’ third-round pick (from LA) in 2009 and a second-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Bernier (3/31/85, 6-2, 225 lbs) appeared in 17 games with the Sabres last season collecting nine points (3+6). Bernier was acquired from San Jose on February 26, 2008 along with the Sharks’ first round selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, in exchange for Brian Campbell and the Sabres’ seventh round selection in 2008.

Last season, Bernier appeared in 76 games overall between San Jose (59) and Buffalo (17), picking up 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points (16+16).
