Sabres 2020 NHL Draft Coverage: Day 2 Selections

The Buffalo Sabres picked four times during Day 2 of the 2020 NHL Draft after selecting Jack Quinn with their first-round pick (8th overall) on Tuesday.
Here is a rundown.

Round 2, Pick 3 (34th overall)

The Sabres kicked off Day 2 with a trade, acquiring the 34th pick from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for picks No. 38 and 100. They used the pick to select German forward John-Jason Peterka.
Peterka spent last season skating for Munchen in Germany's top professional league, tallying 11 points (7+4) in 42 contests. The 5-foot-11, 192-pound forward also recorded six points (4+2) in seven games for Germany at the 2020 World Junior Championship.
Peterka put his goal scoring touch on display against peers in his age group in 2018-19, tallying 45 goals and 94 points in 48 games for RB Hockey Akademie of the Czech U-19 league. NHL.com's Guillaume Lepage had him being selected in the first round in his mock draft.
"The dynamic forward impressed the 2020 WJC, leading Germany with four goals in seven games," he wrote. "In a more limited role in the DEL, Peterka (5-11, 192) showcased his explosive skating stride."
NHL Central Scouting Services ranked Peterka seventh among draft-eligible European skaters, listing Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau as his NHL comparable.

Round 5, Pick 7 (131st overall)

The Sabres went local with their fifth-round selection, drafting center Matteo Costantini from the Buffalo Junior Sabres of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
Costantini, a native of St. Catharine's, Ont., tallied 68 points (36+32) in 50 games this past season. He was named OJHL Rookie of the Year and received Second All-Star Team honors.
Junior Sabres president Patrick Kaleta described him as having good hockey sense and a focused attitude.
"So, character-wise, he's a very, very solid kid," Kaleta said. "And then skills-wise, on the ice, I think his game can speak for itself. You don't get drafted to the NHL if that part is lacking. Obviously, as you get older, speed and skill gets better and better at every level. So, he'll have to work.
"But that character part of his game, where that work ethic and determination and perseverance comes into play, that's why you draft a kid like that because he knows it's going to take work. He'll do whatever he can to get to the point where he puts on the actual Sabres jersey."
The 6-foot-0, 174-pound centerman is slated to spend next season with Penticton of the British Columbia Hockey League and before beginning his NCAA career with the University of North Dakota in 2021-22.

Round 7, Pick 7 (193rd overall)

The Sabres added their first defenseman of the draft, selecting Swedish blueliner Albert Lyckasen. He is set to spend this season with Tranas AIF of HockeyEttan, Sweden's third-tier pro league.
Lyckasen spent last season with Linkoping in Sweden's U-20 SuperElit league, tallying 36 points (14+22) in 43 games. He won a gold medal with Sweden at the U-18 World Championship.

Round 7, Pick 30 (216th overall; From Dallas)

This pick was acquired by Buffalo in a trade with Dallas involving defenseman Taylor Fedun on November 10, 2018. They used the pick to select forward Jakub Konecny from the Czech Republic.
Konecny has 13 points in nine games this season for HC Sparta Praha's U20 team, playing in the same organization as fellow Sabres prospect Lukas Rousek.
