Head Coach Lindy Ruff declined to comment on the team’s roster following its morning skate today.
With Jochen Hecht
likely being removed from the Injured Reserve list, the Sabres would have 24 players on the active roster heading into tonight’s game against the Atlanta Thrashers.
The League maximum is 23 players.
“We don’t need to make a move right now,” Ruff said. “Maybe sometime today. We had a player sick last night so we made this morning optional and we will evaluate where we are at.
“I’m not going to speculate because right now I don’t know for sure what the roster is going to be.”
Only two players – Andrej Sekera
and Patrick Kaleta
– are eligible to be sent down to the American Hockey League without having to clear waivers.
“There are a lot of factors that are going to play into [the decision],” Ruff said. “It is a very tough choice, but the good thing is we are healthy, or getting healthier.”
The deadline for a roster move is by 5 p.m. today.
