The Buffalo Sabres will be taking a tournament-high 10 first- and second-round draft picks to Northern Michigan for the 2014 NHL Prospect Tournament, including 2014 second-overall selection Sam Reinhart. The five-day event runs from Friday, Sept. 12 to Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City.


The eight-team tournament features the top prospects from the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Rangers.

The 2014 NHL Prospects Tournament format divides the eight-team field into two separate four-team divisions. The Gordie Howe Division will feature Columbus, Detroit, Minnesota and St. Louis. The Ted Lindsay Division will be comprised of Buffalo, Carolina, Dallas and New York.

Teams will play a round-robin format by facing-off against each team within their division before a crossover on the final day of the tournament that concludes with the Howe and Lindsay division winners battling in the championship game on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Buffalo vs. Carolina, 4 p.m. (West Rink)

Saturday, Sept. 13
Buffalo vs. NY Rangers, 7 p.m. (David’s Rink)

Monday, Sept. 15
Dallas vs. Buffalo, 3 p.m. (David’s Rink)

Tuesday, Sept. 16
Seventh-Place Game: 4th Lindsay v. 4th Howe, 3 p.m. (David’s Rink)
Fifth-Place Game: 3rd Howe v. 3rd Lindsay, 3:30 p.m. (West Rink)
Third-Place Game: 2nd Lindsay v. 2nd Howe, 6:30 p.m. (David’s Rink)
Championship Game: 1st Howe v. 1st Lindsay, 7 p.m. (West Rink)

The Sabres were tournament champions in 2011 and placed second in last year’s tournament, losing to Detroit in the title game.
