Prior to Saturday’s game against the Devils, Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier told the media that defenseman Jordan Leopold will be out for “an extended period of time” after suffering a hand injury in Friday’s 4-2 win over the Panthers.  Leopold scored his career-high 13th goal of the season in that game.

“We’ll know more Monday when he sees the hand specialist.  But it’s going to be not day-to-day, it will be weeks,” Regier said, adding that the injury would end Leopold’s regular season.

The first-year Sabre leads all Buffalo blueliners in goals with 13 and, entering Saturday’s game, was tied with Tyler Myers with 35 points, which is also a career-high for Leopold.

Regier said that Leopold suffered the injury about halfway through Friday night’s game. Steve Montador returned from a lower body injury to replace Leopold in the lineup against New Jersey.
