The National Hockey League has suspended Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson for two games following an undisciplined hit on Buffalo Sabres forward Jason Pominville.
In Monday's game, Hjalmarsson slammed Pominville from behind, causing his head to crash into the boards. Pominville suffered a concussion and was forced to leave the game on a stretcher. Hjalmarsson received a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct for his actions.
Due to the suspension, he will miss Wednesday's game against the Nashville Predators and Friday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. His first game back will likely be Saturday night, when the Blackhawks host the Sabres in Chicago.
