NEUVIRTH STARTS; FOLIGNO MOVES TO CENTER AGAINST SHARKS

by Staff Writer / Buffalo Sabres

SAN JOSE – Some lineup changes are in store for the Buffalo Sabres as they prepare for a 4 p.m. EST faceoff against the San Jose Sharks from SAP Center at San Jose.

Michal Neuvirth will start in goal. The goaltending competition seems to be wide open again. He and Jhonas Enroth have rotated starts during the three-game road trip in California, which concludes Saturday afternoon in San Jose.

The goaltending position has been one of Buffalo’s brightest spots early this season and Sabres coach Ted Nolan likes to see both goalies pushing each other to perform at the highest level.

“It’s getting close. Every game so far, we can never blame the goaltending,” Nolan said. “They’ve played well for us and right now we’ll keep the rotation going – somewhat of a rotation going. Pretty soon the No. 1 will sprout out.”

MARCUS IN THE MIDDLE
After juggling some line combinations at practice Friday, the biggest change heading into Saturday’s game will see Cody Hodgson moving over to left wing and Marcus Foligno centering his line.

Hodgson started playing wing at the tail end of last season and had great success in that position for Team Canada during the IIHF World Championship in May. He finished second in scoring for the team, recording five goals and three assists in 10 games. He was on the wing at the beginning of this season before moving back to center five games ago.

“We’ll save his energy for the offensive zone, which he’s known for and get Marcus to the grunt work down low,” Nolan said.

Foligno has played center sporadically over the past two seasons.

The Tops Gamenight pregame show begins at 3:30 p.m. EST on MSG-B and Bell TV. The game can also be heard live on WGR 550.
