Buffalo Sabres President Ted Black announced today that Kevin Sylvester and Danny Gare will fill in for the broadcast team of Rick Jeanneret and Harry Neale during the games they will miss with their new reduced schedule. Jeanneret and Neale will only work home games and a reduced road schedule of approximately 10-15 games. Sylvester and Gare’s road game schedule will be determined once the 2011-12 NHL regular season schedule is released later this summer.

“Of the numerous applicants we received for these positions, we realized that our most qualified candidates came from within,” said Black. “Both Kevin and Danny have a familiarity with the players and the organization, and there is also an existing comfort level with our fans. These were important factors in our decision making process.”

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to call away games for this exciting team,” said Sylvester. “I have tremendous respect for RJ’s mastery of Sabres play-by-play, and am happy that he will continue. I’m also excited to share the booth with Danny Gare, whose experience and knowledge of the game will be great assets to all Sabres fans.”

“This is a very exciting opportunity for me, and I’m looking forward to getting back into the fold with the Sabres organization,” says Gare. “I think Kevin is a very good broadcaster, and our styles will complement each other well. I feel we’ll make a great team.”

Gare was a second-round draft pick of the Sabres in 1974, and played eight of his 14 NHL seasons in Buffalo. Gare collected 500 points (267+233) in 503 games with the Sabres, including 50-goal seasons in 1975-76 (50) and 1979-80 (56). Gare’s number 18 was retired by the Sabres, and raised to the rafters on November 22, 2005.

Sylvester has been part of the Sabres broadcast team since 2005 as a host, but has also done some play-play-play during Jeanneret’s scheduled vacations during the past few seasons.

Rob Ray will join Jeanneret and Neale in the booth for their road games, a role he has served in several times over the past two seasons.
