Ales Kotalik, Tim Connolly and Derek Roy were all absent from the team’s skate.

Roy was given the day off with a groin strain, but Ruff expects the centerman to be ready for Wednesday night’s contest against the Boston Bruins.

Kotalik, who was injured Friday during a 6-1 loss to the Blue Jackets is expected to miss around two weeks with a pulled hamstring. The winger attempted to jump out of the way of a Columbus forward, landing awkwardly on his leg late in the third period.

“Leaving the game the other night on a crutch, I was concerned,” Ruff said. “But he is responding pretty good to treatment which means it should be on the shorter side of a couple weeks.”

Connolly’s status remains uncertain. Ruff said he will undergo further evaluation this week on a bruised chest after taking a hard hit from St. Louis Blues’ Keith Tkachuk on Nov. 12

Connolly played the following game on Nov. 14 against Columbus, but missed the Saturday’s contest against Pittsburgh.

“Obviously he got through one game but we’re waiting on another opinion,” Ruff said.

With the forwards out, defenseman Nathan Paetsch practiced as a winger alongside Drew Stafford and Clarke MacArthur.
