Rochester Americans forward Matt Garbowsky shares his thoughts with Sabres.com on Development Camp.

This week at Development Camp has been pretty exciting. They’re keeping us on our toes and moving us around pretty good. You’re either on the ice or you’re off the ice with a little break for lunch. They’ve always got you moving. It’s tough, but it’s fun at the same time.

Today’s practice focused a lot on skating. The first part was a little bit of edge work, getting used to the right strides and where you should be. The second half there, it ramped up a little bit there and got a little bit harder as we were working on our explosiveness. We were definitely being pushed out there.

A lot of the guys are excited to be playing in front of a big crowd tomorrow night for the Blue & Gold Scrimmage, especially wearing the Sabres crest – that’s exciting on its own. A lot of guys are really looking forward to it.

There are guys from all over the place. One of my stallmates is Hampus Gustafsson. He’s from Sweden and it’s been interesting talking to him about certain things. He goes to college at Merrimack University so I like seeing all the different routes guys take to get here.

I’m rooming with Matt Prapavessis. I just call him Praps. He saw each other at the end of the year in Rochester when he played a few games for the Amerks. It’s nice seeing a familiar face. We’ve been going out to dinner together and stuff like that. We’re close so it works out nice.

It was great to finish off strong in college at R.I.T. I definitely knew I wanted a big year and it definitely paid off. Signing my first contract was a bit of a relief, a lot of excitement and there was a lot of emotion involved.

It was definitely great to stay in Rochester, too. I get to just drive down the street. Some guys are moving across the country. This situation definitely worked into my favor.

There are a lot of resources here at Development Camp that they’re showing us and they’re teaching us new things – even little things like staying hydrated, drinking more after workouts and things like that. It’s all the little things that add up to make a complete pro player so I’m just trying to utilize everything and take it all in.
