The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team will loan forward Mikhail Grigorenko to the Russian men's national junior ice hockey team, which will be competing in the 2014 World Junior Championship. Grigorenko will remain with the Sabres until he leaves with defenseman Nikita Zadorov on Sunday to join Team Russia.

The 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship will take place from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Malmo, Sweden. Russia will compete in Group B with Sweden, Switzerland, Finland and Norway. Group A consists of Canada, United States, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany.

Sabres prospect J.T. Compher (U. of Michigan) was named to the preliminary roster for Team USA, while Gustav Possler is part of Sweden's preliminary roster. Defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen is eligible to play for Finland, but he suffered an upper body injury while playing with Rochester (AHL) last Friday.
