Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have agreed to terms on a multi-year deal with restricted free agent center Paul Gaustad. Gaustad was scheduled for NHL arbitration on Wednesday, August 2, in Toronto.
Gaustad collected 24 points (9+15) and 65 PIMs in 78 games during his rookie season with Buffalo in 2005-06. The 6-4, 217 lb.-native of Fargo, N.D., was second on the Sabres in both faceoff wins (433) and winning percentage (52.2). Gaustad's 433 faceoff wins also ranked him second among all NHL rookies, trailing only Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby.
The 24-year-old Gaustad played in all 18 of Buffalo's games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, finishing with four points (0+4) and 14 PIMs.
Gaustad was Buffalo's seventh-round choice (220th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
