Fishing reels, chartered boats and an endless supply of hockey stories were on tap at the first annual Sabres Alumni Fishing Derby, sponsered by Labatt Blue, held on Tuesday, July 18 at Krull Park.
A total of 20 of the finest charter captains and their boats navigated Lake Ontario in the one-day event.
Such former Sabres as Larry Playfair, Rob Ray, Lindy Ruff, Grant Ledyard, Rick Martin and Matthew Barnaby were in attendance as the Alumni raised funds to benefit the Kevin Guest House.
Current forward Adam Mair and play-by-play announcer Rick Jeanneret were also in attendance.
"We had 18 of our guys show up and we were blessed with great weather," said Playfair. "For Rob Ray's first chairmanship of this fishing derby, it went extremely well."
