EICHEL CHOOSES NO. 15 BUT WON'T WEAR IT 'UNTIL I MAKE THE TEAM'

by Staff Writer / Buffalo Sabres

Jack Eichel will wear No. 41 during Friday night’s Blue & Gold Scrimmage, but if things work out, he’ll be wearing No. 15 in the fall.

At a press conference Friday morning at First Niagara Center, Eichel announced his number choice if and when he plays for Buffalo at some next season.

“If the opportunity presented itself to make the team and be a part of the Sabres next year, I’d be wearing No. 15,” Eichel said.

“I had a few numbers that I had in mind. I didn’t really want to pick one because I didn’t want to make it seem like I was content on already making the team.

“It’s a number that my sister’s worn and my dad’s worn and I’ve worn before. It’s their lucky number and it happens to be the year I got drafted. I like the number and I think it would be really nice to wear it if the opportunity presents itself to be on the Sabres next year.”

As for his thoughts on being assigned No. 41 for Development Camp?

“It’s just a number and I’m sure I’ll get another number at training camp,” he said. “Fifteen’s not my number until I make the team.”
