Discussing the Deadline Deals

by Staff Writer / Buffalo Sabres
Sabres general manager Darcy Regier spoke to the media after the NHL trade deadline passed at three o'clock today. The Sabres made four trades on deadline day as they sent veteran goaltender Martin Biron to the Philadelphia Flyers and forward Jiri Novotny to the Washington Capitals. They picked up forward Dainius Zubrus and defenseman from the Capitals, goaltender Ty Conklin from the Columbus Blue Jackets, and defenseman Mikko Lehtonen from the Nashville Predators.

The topics that Regier touched upon included the difficulty of trading away Biron, the ability to make the team better than where it was with the trades made today, the eventual return of the Sabres injured skaters, and the difficulty of dealing with the new NHL, especially in the area of the salary cap and heading into the playoffs.
