If the Sabres choose to take a defenseman with the No. 8 selection at the NHL Draft at First Niagara Center on June 24, chances are there will be a talented player available. The question is, then, which one will it be?

NHL CSS has four defensemen ranked among its top 10 North American skaters: Jakob Chychrun (No. 4), Olli Juolevi (5), Charles McAvoy (6) and Mikhail Sergachev (8). But that order, director of Central Scouting Dan Marr said, doesn’t necessarily mean teams will be thinking the same way come Draft day.

"The core D-men, the top four or five guys that are ranked, there's no predicting the order," he said. "They're all good; they're all different in their own way. We've kept Jacob Chychrun at the top of our list, he's the real deal as far as we're concerned, and it's up the individual team whoever they want at that position.

"They're all quality players, they're all going to be in the National Hockey League sooner rather than later, and they all bring something different."

Marr added that he expects each of those players to become top-four defensemen at the NHL level.
