Sabres fans have been waiting for Tim Connolly.  That's never been more apparent than prior to Buffalo's final preseason match-up against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

As is normal NHL protocol, the scratches and roster additions were announced over the in-house PA system following the pre-game skate.

Dave Miller spoke nine magic words that made the crowd in HSBC Arena erupt, "Please add to your roster number 19, Tim Connolly."

It's a clear sign that Buffalo fans are steadfastly hoping and praying that the Syracuse, N.Y. native will - at the very least - help fill the offensive void that was left with the departures of Chris Drury and Daniel Briere.

And if the "A" stitched on Connolly's sweater during Saturday's game is any indication, the Sabres are looking for him to become another leader in a locker room filled with youth.

Speaking of leadership, there hasn't been any sort of announcement yet on whether or not the captaincy will rotate this season like it did in 2003-2004.

Five players have worn the "C" during preseason:  Jochen Hecht; Brian Campbell; Toni Lydman; Derek Roy; and Henrik Tallinder.  Hecht is the only player that has sported the letter more than once, taking the role in the first and third exhibition contests.

For those of you that have forgotten, your captains during the 03-04 season were:

Miroslav Satan (October 2003)
Chris Drury (November 2003)
James Patrick (December 2003)
JP Dumont (January 2004)
Daniel Briere (February 2004)
Chris Drury (March 2004)
