There are four reasons why Dan Bylsma is an excellent choice to coach the Sabres.
1. He has worked with two of the world's best players, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. They have excelled under the guiding hand of Bylsma. The Sabres have a wealth of talent in the organization and understanding how to compliment top players and have them in situations in which they can thrive is key to success.
2. Bylsma integrated young defensemen into the lineup and helped them grow and expand their games. The Sabres have some very promising young defensemen on their team and in the pipeline and they will have an opportunity to do similar things under Bylsma.
3. There was ongoing change during Bylsma's tenure in Pittsburgh. A lot of it was due to injuries, but he knew how to deal with the changing circumstances and kept the team competitive despite injuries to top players. The Sabres are going to go through some significant changes over the next few years and being an “agent of change” is going to be key as the team and players grow.
4. He beat Mike Babcock in the 2009 Stanley Cup Final, winning Game 7 in Detroit.
