The Buffalo Sabres have acquired a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for the rights to goaltender Erik Portillo, the team announced Wednesday.
The Sabres now own nine draft picks in 2023: one in each of the first, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh rounds and three in the second round.

Portillo, 22, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on August 15. The Sabres drafted Portillo during the third round in 2019.
Buffalo has three other goaltenders under the age of 24 on its organizational depth chart. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, 23, has played 25 games with the Sabres this season. Devon Levi, 21, won the Mike Richter Award as the top goalie in the NCAA last season and is a semifinalist for the award again this season. Topias Leinonen, 19, was drafted during the second round last summer.
The NHL trade deadline is Friday at 3 p.m.
