On Wednesday, May 23, Jordan Leopold and Nathan Gerbe joined a Stone’s Buddies group from Women and Children’s Hospital when they had an opportunity to visit the U.S. Coast Guard Station at the foot of Furhman Boulevard in Buffalo’s Inner Harbor.

The Coast Guard took the group on a ride in their new boat that just arrived at the station two weeks ago. The children were thrilled to be out on the open water and got a chance to see the city from a new angle. Jordan and Nathan both got to drive the boat, while the kids were able to serve as co-captains. Following the ride, everyone was invited to enjoy a delicious barbeque dinner.

USCG Executive Petty Officer Thomas D’Amore said: “We thoroughly enjoyed having the Sabres and Stone's Buddies visit us and take a ride on our new boat. We are looking forward to another opportunity to host another event with them.” The Sabres and the U. S. Coast Guard realize the importance of giving chronically ill children the chance to get their mind off their treatments and just be a kid for a little while. It means the world of a difference to them and helps them get on the path to recovery.
