Thomas Vanek will be out at least a few weeks after sustaining an upper body injury according to Head Coach Lindy Ruff.

The winger left the ice midway through the second period of Buffalo’s 6-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings after netting his second goal of the night.

Although Vanek immediately left the game following the play - crashing along the endboards - Ruff said the injury took place before the goal.

“It’s tough, but we’ve got extra players and every team is going to have to deal with injuries,” Ruff said. “If you look what Detroit’s dealing with, they’ve got to deal with [Johan] Fronzen out of the lineup. Every team is going to miss key players along the way and I think we have enough depth.”
