Paul Gaustad reported to HSBC Arena this morning with the rest of the veterans for the commencement of training camp.

Following his on-ice testing, Gaustad spoke to the media to talk about the upcoming season, and reported that he had offseason surgery earlier this summer to repair a sports hernia.

It is the second consecutive summer that Gaustad has been affected by a sports hernia, causing him to miss out on the World Championships twice.

Ryan Miller discussed his busy offseason, including his attendance at the United States Olympic Hockey Camp - describing it as more of an 'orientation than a tryout' for the players to get acclimated with the team.

Miller also spoke about the recovery of his ankle sprain that he suffered
in February during a game against the New York Rangers.

"It kind of felt dumb," Miller said of his ankle. "It was like it wasn't as coordinated as it used to be. We spent the majority of the summer getting it back to that coordination and that range of motion."

The Sabres netminder said the injury took longer than he expected to fully recover from and that he felt he made the right decision in missing World Championships following the regular season to let it heal completely.
