Toni Lydman could be seeing some action soon for the first time in nearly a month.

Head Coach Lindy Ruff said the defenseman “is as close to ready to play as we’re going to get him” since suffering a groin injury in Florida.

Lydman has missed the last 10 games due to the ailment but said he has “finally gotten over the hump.”

Ruff did not say whether the blueliner would play in Wednesday’s match-up against the Panthers, but added that the coaches would make a decision tomorrow morning.

He did confirm that Drew Stafford will return to the lineup after missing Saturday night’s 3-2 win in Philadelphia due to a hip flexor.

As for Mike Grier, the winger attempted to skate on his own prior to the Sabres’ 45-minute workout at the Pepsi Center on Tuesday.

“I didn’t get an update yet,” Ruff said. “I know he left and didn’t stay for the majority of practice. We’re at the point where we don’t want to make it any worse. He skated earlier before our practice started and just wanted to stay for part of this practice. We’ll get an update and see where he is tomorrow.”
