Derek Roy will return to the Buffalo Sabres lineup for the first time in four games when they face that Atlanta Thrashers tonight in HSBC Arena (7:30 p.m., MSG).

The Sabres highest scoring pivot hasn't played since injuring his shoulder on Jan. 8 at New Jersey.

Roy stated Thursday that his status tonight would depend how good the shoulder felt following yesterday's skate.  The Sabres morning practice came and went with little to report from Roy's perspective.

That was good news for Buffalo.

"I just wanted to see if I would wake-up with any pain or discomfort," said Roy.  "It felt good this morning.  I warmed it up and I still feel good."

"We got him a pretty good practice yesterday," said head coach Lindy Ruff.  "He's been skating for five days now pretty hard, so I anticipate him being a positive influence."

Roy is tied for second on the Sabres in goals (13) and points (30).  According to Ruff, his participation in tonight's contest will depend on how well he reacts to being back in a game situation.

"We'll start out maybe a little bit limited, but we'll see where he's at," said Ruff.

"We need a win obviously," Roy said.  "This is unacceptable to not get a win in this many games in a row.  We've got to get out there and work hard as a team."
