BINGHAMTON TAKES GAME 1 IN PORTLAND

Portland, Maine - Ryan Keller, Bobby Butler and Zack Smith each scored once to lead the Binghamton Senators to a 3-2 win over the Portland Pirates in Game 1 of their Atlantic Division Final played Wednesday night at the Cumberland County Civic Center.


The Senators lead the best-of-seven series 1-0 with Game 2 Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center.

Max Legault and Colin Stuart scored for the Pirates, who suffered their first home loss of the post season.

Legault netted the only goal of the opening period to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead after the first. In the second period, Keller and Butler (on the power play) scored in a span of 71 seconds to give the Senators a 2-1 lead but Stuart got the Pirates back on even terms before the end of the frame to send the two teams into the third tied at two. Smith connected for what turned out to be the game-winner just over seven minutes into the third to complete the scoring.

The Senators outshot the 43-35 in the game as David Leggio took the loss while making 40 saves.  Mark Voakes, Matt Ellis and Corey Fienhage each collected an assist.

The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the game were: 1. Smith; 2. Binghamton forward Ryan Potulny and 3. Legault.

Game 2 of the best of seven series will be played Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center in Portland.
