The Albright-Knox Art Gallery announced today that it will open on New Years Day. The unscheduled opening will allow visitors in Buffalo for the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship to enjoy the museum during the break in games on the Holiday.
The special exhibition Forty: The Sabres in the NHL will be on view for hockey fans from near and far. This exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Buffalo Sabres Foundation. Featuring photographs and film documenting the history and character of the Buffalo Sabres, its presentation coincides with the Sabres Fortieth Anniversary in the National Hockey League. Beginning on January 2, the Stanley Cup and other trophies from the Hockey Hall of Fame will be on display. The cup and trophies will remain on view until Wednesday evening, January 5. The Gallery will stay open late on Monday January 3 to accommodate fans wishing to see the trophies and exhibition.
