For the fifth straight year, the Buffalo Sabres Street HockeyFest, sponsored by Dick's Sporting Goods, saw a record number of teams compete in the premiere street hockey tournament in Western New York.

More than 170 teams battled in the full day tournament in the shadows in front of HSBC Arena with a crowd of approximately 4,000 people in attendance. Opening games of the tournament began at 9:00 am while each division's championship occurred around dusk.

The tournament has seen a massive growth since its inception in 2001. That year, only 32 teams competed.

This summer registration was completely filled after just two short weeks.

The competition, which was open to boys and girls from five years old to adults, featured six divisions broken down by age groups.  The Pee Wee Division was separated in half due to overwhelming demand.

Below is a listing of each division and the champions:

Mites - Rollin' Thunder:  Christopher Blachowski, Thomas Cecere, Cameron Lber and Derrick Hanitz

Squirts- Fighting Irish:  Max Gates, Ryan Wheeler, Stephen Gosciak, Trevor Micucci and Zach Burdzy

PeeWee Jr.- NordyBuff Beasts: Thomas Samar, Eric Adolf, Alex Strickland, Mike Coyne

PeeWee Sr.- Penguins: Mike Graziano, Peter Brooks, Steven Raimondi, KJ Zinnermon and Ryan Kaufman

Midgets- Papa Georgio's Esque: Justin Dritschel, Sean Casilio, Dan Sharpe, Jake Leffler and Guy Vinette

Legends- Pretty Louies: Ed Sudik, Erin Mancuso, Kolton Moser, Chad Moser and Mike Vogel

No player walked away empty handed, as each received a HockeyFest t-shirt and hat for simply competing in the event.

As an added bonus, Dick's Sporting Goods graciously donated gift certificates.
