Jeff Finley is in his seventh season in the Red Wings' amateur scouting department, and third as chief scout. In his role with the NHL club, he is responsible for traveling across North America and Europe evaluating prospects leading up to the annual NHL draft.
A third-round pick of the New York Islanders in 1985, Finley eventually logged more than 700 NHL games as a defensive defenseman, compiling 13 goals and 70 assists in 15 seasons. He also played for Philadelphia, Winnipeg/Phoenix, the New York Rangers and St. Louis.
As an assistant coach with the Kelowna Rockets (2007-09) of the Western Hockey League, he mentored a defensive corps which included standout blueliners Luke Schenn, Tyler Myers and Tyson Barrie.
An Edmonton native, Finley now lives in Kelowna, British Columbia with his wife Tamilee, and their four children.
