– Detroit Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg
announced today his continued effort to raise funds for the Detroit Fire Department by collecting donations in exchange for autographed photos with proceeds directly benefiting the Detroit Public Safety Foundation.
The first 100 fans to visit Hockeytown Authentics in Troy, Mich., (1845 E. Big Beaver Rd.) and make a $50 donation via cash or check to the Detroit Red Wings Foundation will receive a limited-edition autographed 8” x 10” photo of the Red Wings captain. All funds up to $5,000 will be matched by the Zetterberg Foundation and will be donated directly to the Detroit Public Safety Foundation to help buy much-needed equipment for Detroit firefighters. A combined donation of $10,000 would enable the Detroit Public Safety Foundation to purchase 142 Motorola Impress Batteries for the Detroit Fire Department’s prep radios.
“We have identified a critical need of replacing worn out batteries and this donation will purchase much needed equipment to help the Detroit Fire Department serve the citizens and visitors to the city of Detroit,” said Craig Dougherty, 2nd Deputy Fire Commissioner for the Detroit Fire Department. “We would like to thank the Zetterberg Foundation and the Detroit Red Wings Foundation for this thoughtful act.”
Zetterberg is in his ninth season as the Red Wings spokesman for the team’s annual Smoke Detector Collection. Last year, the Red Wings captain made a personal donation of $11,400 to match the number of smoke detectors and cash donated by Red Wings fans during two in-game Smoke Detector Collections.
This season, the Red Wings will host their 13th annual Smoke Detector Collection, presented by Comerica, during home games on Thursday, Sept. 25, and Saturday, Sept. 27, with a check presentation set to be held during a pregame ceremony prior to the Red Wings tilt against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
