– The Detroit Red Wings today recalled defensemen Xavier Ouellet
from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
One of nine rookies to make their NHL debut for Detroit this season, Ouellet appeared in four regular-season games with the Red Wings, recording four shots on goal, two penalty minutes and seven hits while averaging 14:34 of ice time. The Bayonne, France, native also skated in 70 AHL games with the Griffins this season, notching 17 points (4-13-17) and 22 penalty minutes. Originally drafted by Detroit in the second round (48th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Ouellet skated in 223 QMJHL games with the Montreal Juniors and Blainville-Boisbriand Armada from 2009-13 prior to turning professional, tallying 160 points (41-119-160) and 177 penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 200-lb., blueliner was also named to the QMJHL First All-Star Team and represented Canada at the 2013 World Junior Championships last season.
