DETROIT -- The “Beard is Back!” and stepping up to strut his scruff is 99.5 WYCD’s Dr. Don Carpenter, the latest local celebrity to join the Detroit Red Wings Beard-A-Thon. Fans can log-on to beardathon.com/redwings or DetroitRedWings.com and weigh-in on Dr. Don’s goatee along with your favorite Red Wings players’ and over 500 participants’ playoff beards.
Red Wings fans can get involved by either growing a beard themselves or by making a pledge in support of a friend, family member, colleague, Red Wings player or local celebrity. Fans can pledge a set dollar amount for every day that a participant maintains his beard, or make a one-time contribution. All proceeds from the Beard-A-Thon will benefit the Detroit Red Wings Foundation.
There is still time to enter so get growing! The Beard-A-Thon runs throughout the Wings’ playoffs run, with prizes to be given out to top participants. The top pledge from each participating player’s profile will be awarded an autographed puck and the bearded participant with the highest total pledge amount raised will win a team-signed Red Wings' Winter Classic jersey.
