DETROIT -- Like the Red Wings, the Calgary Flames are on the outside looking in to the Western Conference playoff standings.

Unlike Detroit, the Flames were quite active at the NHL's trade deadline on Wednesday.

Calgary made a deal with Edmonton for veteran defenseman Steve Staios, who will be paired with Flames veteran Jay Bouwmeester.

Staios joins the fold at a desperate time. The Flames are on the outside looking in when it comes to the Western Conference playoff standings and this stretch drive will determine their post-season fate.

The Flames will visit Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday, March 9. It will be the third meeting of the season between the Wings and Flames. The teams have split the season-series so far, with the visitors claiming road victories in the first two games.

Single-game tickets for the entire 2009-10 season are available at the Joe Louis Arena Box Office, all TicketMaster locations including Hockeytown Café, Hockeytown Authentics in Troy, Mich., or charge by phone at 800-745-3000. Fans also can purchase tickets by logging on to
