Wings support ACHA's European trip

by Staff Writer / Detroit Red Wings
A select team of players from the American Collegiate Hockey Association were invited to play six games in Europe for the first week of January.

The Americans finished their tour with an undefeated record against teams from France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Austria, and did so by a combined score of 54-10.

Mike Sand, the uncle of ACHA goalie Justin Sand, also went on the European trip, and as a gesture of goodwill, the third-generation metro Detroit of European decent, Mike Sand brought along plenty of Red Wings merchandise to give as gifts to their European hosts.

Armed with Wings pennants and team wall calendars, Sand was warmly greeted wherever he went during the 10-day tour.

"What an amazing trip," said Sand, in an email to Wings executives. "Everyone recognized the
Wings immediately and we were an instant hit."
