The Red Wings and Ottawa Senators split four games last season, with the road team winning each time. Johan Franzen had four goals to lead the Red Wings, who had Jonas Gustavsson in net for their two victories.

Most games between Detroit and Ottawa over the past two decades have featured Daniel Alfredsson, who played last season for the Red Wings after 17 seasons with the Senators. Alfredsson is currently taking his time figuring out if his health will allow him to return and play another season for the Red Wings, but they will have another timeless competitor in the lineup in Pavel Datsyuk, who on Monday was named the NHL's second star for the past week. The 36-year-old has points in all six games he's played since returning from a shoulder injury, with five goals and five assists. He has three straight multi-point games (four goals, three assists).

Defenseman Kyle Quincey, who missed a 3-2 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday with an ankle injury, skated Monday and could be a game-time decision. Jimmy Howard will start in goal.
