DETROIT -- The Red Wings will host their annual Military Appreciation Night this Thursday, November 11, when the Wings take on the Edmonton Oilers at 7:30 p.m. on Veterans Day (FOX Sports Detroit and 97.1 The Ticket).
Volunteers from Blue Star Mothers of America will be on hand to collect care package items and monetary donations at each entrance of Joe Louis Arena when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. For each item or $5 donated to Blue Star Mothers of America, fans will receive a raffle ticket and be entered to win an autographed Mike Modano jersey.
Blue Star Mothers of America will include all items collected on Thursday when they pack the care package boxes on Monday, November 15, and then ship them to soldiers overseas the following day. The care packages will also include AT&T calling cards, which were generously donated by Cell Phones for Soldiers. All monetary donations from Thursday’s game will help cover the cost of shipping the care packages.
In addition, fans can pick up a prepaid envelope at each entrance to participate in the Cell Phones for Soldiers program, which encourages people to send in their previously used cell phones. The donated cell phones are then recycled and the proceeds are used to purchase prepaid calling cards for American soldiers.
