DETROIT -- The Red Wings announced today that they have re-signed forward Tomas Kopecky to a two-year contract.
Kopecky has played in 26 games this season before suffering a broken clavical on Dec. 14 at Chicago. Kopecky, who would have been an unrestricted free agent this summer, was averaging more than seven-minutes of ice time prior to his injury. He was Detroit's second round draft pick in 2000.
"Tomas is a good young player who improved throughout his time in Grand Rapids and was becoming a solid NHL player," general manager Ken Holland said. "He suffered a setback with the injury this year but we're confident he will return and continue to improve."
